• The female hamster,Olive we think mated with Popeye,the male hamster cause she digs stores food and is developing a slight bump on her right side in the back. She has started to make noises when we pick her up and she is drinking a lot of water,my friend said she had to refill two times last night! She also said that it tries to bite her when she picks her up some times. I don't know how to tell if a hamsters pregnant so please help me. What do we do if the babies are born too,people told me the mother eats them...and how many babies can they have?


  • there is a good chance that the hamsters may have mated and could be pregnant.

    I really think that your hamster is sick or injured somehow. it is normal for dwarf hamsters to bite you if you try to pick them up but it is incredible how much water they drink! my syrian hamster (much much bigger!) doesn't even finish a whole bottle in four days!! I would suggest checking the water bottle for leaks. and the lump on the back and squeaking when you pick them up sounds like something painful and/or harmful to the hamster.
