• Waiii!! I am so happy!! I just found out that Tokyopop is coming out with two of my favorite titles, Tokyo Babylon and DNAngel!!!

Hehe! Tokyopop is doing good w/all the manga titles!! Now if they could just bring some Yuki Kaori titles over...;)

  • I thought that they did a good job with Jing King of Bandits or Demon Diary. Most of my favorites are made by them. In my preferance there better than VIZ and stuff like that.

  • Justin were you talking to me?

And if yes,I was wondering how do you know about malls in my area?

  • Sunrise mall in sacramento had a little anime convention and the ppl from tokyo pop were there :p it was pretty rad. I go to walden books in the mall they usually have a big manga selection.. and for all the ppl that liked love hin you should read nagima its good

  • I P//3) it!

  • Barnes & Noble, That's where I go. The current Manga I mean Manwha that I am reading right now is I.N.V.U and Ragnarok. Can't wait until the next volumes come out! O-O

  • Maybe you should just email it. Save you and Webmaster some trouble.

well, of course they're not always bad... i'm just really mad at what they did to Initial D english versions - of the manga, anime AND arcade!!! it's too confusing remembering two sets of names, not to mention how lame they are.

the characters are japanese, so they should have japanese names! it makes it terribly unrealistic from a character/story point of view.

  • Yay DNangel!!!!!! I love dark&daisuke, dark is a hottie and daisuke is a cutie ^-^

  • Blade of the Immortal has a superb story.

As for Tpop...I am NOT a fan of that site anymore. I remember way back in the day, they had a kosher free magazine, and a great chatroom where I met some really incredible and lifelong friends, then for some reason they just shut it all down.

    Havent been back since.

  • Go to Suncoast in the mall (if the mall near you has a Suncoast that is) and look at the Manga section. Just pick a title and thumb through it and see if you might look to read more.

    That's what I do.

  • i don't know about them, i hate the way they dumbed initial d down
then again, they are what broke dark horse and viz down and made them start $9.99 comic books as well
but get a love hina tankouban from over there, and see just how much they cut out (like half)...

  •

Waiii!!! I just found out they are releasing Saiyuki too!!!

  • I was talking to you Hidden Wisdom and to answer your question. I don't know anything about the malls in your area. I was just trying to give you an example of where to look which was Suncoast, which is in a mall near where I live. I thought that Suncoast was common in most shopping malls in the U.S.

  • I go to borders to get my mangas suncost would be better sence the are doing this 2 for 15$ sale but the dont have the good stuff I had to go to walden books to get gravitation 7 like a week after the release date when no other place had it at alll (I was looking all over), I think tokyopop has good intentions, manga wise, for people like me who cant read japanesse and they have some of the best titles, eerie queerie, gravitation, FAKE, .....hmm see a connetion between those 3, hehe. anyway yeah... thats just me and my ramblings

  • I usually go to Borders...I don't know if a lot of them are getting the massive Manga sections...but I live in a fairly small and closed minded town...but hey our Borders has a ton of Manga. Really I heard that I love Tokyo Babylon especially since they really didn't cover much ground in the anime series and well they don't mention the Subaru/Seishirou issue...because that's really intertesting...the bet that was made, the death of Subaru's sister and they hatred that came between Subaru and Seishirou that carries on into X aka X/1999... I like that TokyoPop brings out Korean manga as well because I've found a few good titles out of their Korean ones they've brought out

  • Pet shop of horrors is very good i have all 4 released volumes that are out so far. I hate waiting for the next volume to be released. Whats good about this story is that it does have a sequence and a basic plot but you can get any volume (considering most of the time they are very hard to find) and not really be lost too much with the story. Its main characters are a pet shop owner's grandson who is currently running his shop while he is away and a detective who is onto the weird occurances that are linked to customers of the petshop. The artwork is beautiful and very detailed which is a big plus.

  • That's what I do as well...thing is for some reason the manga I pick out always seem to be the "forever" series. By that I mean, I end up paying $500 on that series alone (maybe a bit of an exaggeration) just so I can learn the ending -.- such a pain.

  • i doubt that they edit anything out of happy mania though :D
anyway, i think "Guts" is is his real name, just that the fansubbers thought it must be "Gatz" because "Guts" would have been/must have been so corny
unless Kentaro Miura spelled his name "Gatz" in an interview...
but as far as being ridiiculous, dark horse takes the cake
this last go-around with ghost in the shell, they have one page where motoko is sitting in this chair with "p.i. unit" backwards... they have a blurb saying that "the letters are the way the author intended"! really? then why, in the original japanese version, they are not reversed? does he hate america that much? i kind of doubt it.
they probably asked him to change it, he said forget it, i know kodansha, etc are producing comics with unflopped pages and making moolah, so like it or leave it.
they chose to leave it, and blame him in the process of covering their
good-bye toren smith! and good riddance!!! you will not be missed

  • I've no idea why they would edit anything out of Initial D...especially when it's just some chick's tits.
FAKE and Eerie Queerie are the shizzle, Koori =.=
Suncoast used to be where I got all my manga, they have nice deals and what not there - but they don't carry much in the way of manga now. At least not when you compare suncoast to Walden Books....which is where I get all my manga now too.

  • more or less Kisama would fit them. I watched Initial D first time with English Subs, original audio. Never changed it back. I mean the original school cutie Mogi was renamed to Natalie! DEAR GOD! plus, the first name Tak doesn't seem authentically Japanesse to me.

Also, I may not know this for a fact, but sometimes while doing a WinMX Hentai run, I come across manga scans of series. It looks like the original artists too, not a fan-made doujinshi scan.,I found one of CB after they meet Ed, and Faye proves she's a girl. I'm assuming those Bakas cut that out as well, not to mention a Love Hina part that got pretty Kinky 0.o I'm so pissed, I'll pay about 150% they're price for a bilingual, unedited version of Chobits manga.

And last, who could forget 4kids. In all honesty, I still like Pokemon and Sonic X. I downloaded fansub eps rather then listening to their IQ-dropping scripts. not to mention I have dialup. *sigh* why hasn't Sonic-CulT bombed their main building for all the pain they cause the Sonic community. Plus, Pokemon might have lasted a little longer if someone did the dub, I dunno. But anyhow. BGM's in Initial D are as bad as the replacements for Sonic X *shudder*... my opinion is now posted!

  • students get 20% off this week on total purchases at borders
    signs posted on the door
plus for the other peeps, there's a 10% off as well
if it's cool, i will try to get a link

  • nifty ness!
    (i'm back)

  • They do give alot of good manga,But i havent been able to purchase any new books.

Would anyone give me some advice in checking out some new manga?

  • I'm not sure I like what they did to Gravitation.
    *twitch*

  • Demon Diary and Pet Shop of Horrors are the two I'm enjoying from Tokyopop at the moment. GTO and FAKE are two more titles of theirs I've read. Haven't found Gravitation around here yet.
But yay for DNAngel and Tokyo Bablyon! Ah, and I promised myself I'd get Angel Sanctuary as it comes out too (can't recall who's releasing the english translation though).

  • hum...does tokyopop export to european countries too?

  • Yeah I go to Walden books too. It would have been excellent to have been in California when the little mall convention was happening. I've never had a chance to go to a convention yet. =
I'd love to meet the Tokyopop people...that'd be great - I might have to tell them to stop making stupid cinemanga though...

  • INVU is nifty! *thumbs up*

  • word!

  • >.> Hmmm....Just when I thought they were getting better at not cutting out so much....Eeeps! Hope they don't do the same thing to DNAngel and Tokyo Babylon.....!!

(Still.....I've waited so long for these titles to finally come overseas!)

:winklove:

  • "Well i really wanna collect Lone Wolf and Cub"
it's good too! $9.99 for each is rough, but it's worth imo
that is, until viz releases it even cheaper :(
it's "kozure okami" in case people want to venture out and find japanese sites on it
plus animeigo got phat liner notes and such on their site

edit: re. lh, i can take a picture of the american manga and the japanese also, to compare
but it would be up to the webmaster to approve of it being posted :)

toykopop are evil. the sooner i can learn japanese and read the originals and watch anime without subs OR dubs (not that i go near dubs anyway), the better.

  • that would be pretty good. discountanimedvd.com is running a special now for up to 20% off manga books and other stuff.

  • The way I see it is this.. I am not happy with what TP has done to some of their books in the past. Initial D especially. There is absolutely NO REASON to edit that book, in my opinion. I don't care if there is a part of that book where Mogi is laying and her boobs are hanging out or not, I pay $10, I expect the exact same thing I can get for $4 at a Japanese bookstore. The name changes annoy the **** out me too. Tak is sort of acceptable (not sure if it is a nick for Takumi, however...), but Iggy and Natalie?? How the hell are those Japanese names? I would detest their DVD's of Initiall D, but they are 15 bucks with an equal episode count of the Japanese versions.

As for Love Hina, that also shouldn't be edited as it shouldn't even be read by children.

TP is a double edged sword, without them I have read things I never could have before. With them, I haven't learned as much Japanese as I would have liked.

    Peace,

    Ant

  • Lone Wolf and cub is merveilles....everyone should own it.

  • yahh, borders is what i was thinking. sign up for the email newsletter and get coupons (10% - 30% off)

  • Ah, Blade of the Immortal! How could I forget? >.<

  • Blade of the Immortal,Is the best in my Opinoin.
Nothing more better then a great samurai story.

Well i really wanna collect Lone Wolf and Cub

  • Well, of course it is better to read the originals! But, until I can read japanese, I have to sedate my hunger for manga somehow, ne? :p (And plus, i think it is nice they started the 'original format' rev.! Flipped pics make the quality so bad! ;))

    i agree with u 500%
tokyopop destroyed initial d with their crappy language, crappy names and crappy everything, i like initial d, but i will NEVER read or watch the english version, i will die before i do that. Actually watching it is even worse because u have to hear their annoying voices and wached up slang like "yo dawg whasup, u wanna go drift down the mountain dawg?" i mean wtf is that........

  • Barnes & Noble, That's where I go. The current Manga I mean Manwha that I am reading right now is I.N.V.U and Ragnarok. Can't wait until the next volumes come out! O-O
The customer help you recieve there is dreadful.

  • ya unfortunatly they extreamly edit stuff out of the american versions of manga. It sucks because i guess the american public isent as open about sexuality as other countrys are. because you know if that scene in initial D you were talkin about with the chick and her tits, you know some ppl will get hella pissed :p
as for the name changes i know what ya mean like in berserk they changed the main char. name from gatz (i think the actual name is longer) to guts i dont know why but they do :( if anyone liked the love hina series like i did then you should check out nagima its made by the same person and its great :p
